Beat the System: The Musical 11th, 12th, 13th July 2024

Description
Beat the System was something we have never put on before: an original musical! Always keen to push the boundaries we were delighted to stage the ‘world premiere’ of Beat the System: The Musical. Written by Mike Watson our resident drummer and composer and directed by Tom Everitt, actor, panto dame and director of our summer shows, the duo are not strangers to working together. (E.g Joseph, Wycombe Arts Centre 2018). In typical Lane End Players style you got a great production with super sound, lush lighting, plus brilliant acting, song and dance. But what was captivating was the story. Dexy is settled in a proper job but is challenged by her Grandfather to take the message of the power of drummng and music to the world. She unites with Dru who provides drum therapy sessions at the Trees Care home, where Grandad is resident. They face ruthless opposition from Barbara Jones, the new selfish CEO of the Care Home Group. She is in cahoots with Ronald Smythe a narcissistic pharma capitalist intent on world domination. They take Dru and Dexy to court to stop their emerging drum therapy business. Why? Because if the impact of drumming and music on people’s wellbeing becomes common knowledge if could ruin their plans for their business empire.
